Bulgarian conductor Nayden Todorov has been invited by Theater Rudolstadt to conduct one of Germany's oldest orchestras, the Thueringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt, on March 15 and 16. The programme features Pancho Vladigerov's Bulgarian Suite and Piano Concerto No. 3 and Schumann's Symphony No. 1, the Sofia Philharmonic said.

The soloist, Bulgarian pianist Ludmil Angelov, performed the same concerto with Maestro Todorov and the Sofia Philharmonic at the orchestra's historic debut in the Grand Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2022.

Since 1991, Maestro Todorov has given a four-digit number of concerts in Germany. In the context of the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Germany, he received the recognition that music is the most influential form of cultural diplomacy.

The Thueringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt first appears in historic documents as the "Rudolstaedter Hofkapelle" of 1635. The Hofkapelle accompanied all opera performances in Theater Rudolstadt from 1793 onwards. Among the operas were Weber's Der Freischütz and Wagner's Tannhäuser in 1855. Famous instrumental virtuosos played with the orchestra, including Niccolo Paganini in 1829 and Franz Liszt in 1844.
