A code red for blizzards and heavy snow was put in force on Sunday in the Romanian counties of Braila, Ialomita, Buzau, Calarasi, Constanta and Tulcea. All national roads in the county of Braila are closed. Traffic on the highway between Bucharest with Constanta is extremely difficult in the snow blizzard conditions. There is accumulated snow on the road and visibility is almost zero. Wind gusts exceed 100 km/h. Due to the blizzard and low visibility, the Braila Bridge is closed until 14:00 on Sunday.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has requested the convening of emergency task forces due to the difficult winter situation at the level of the Ministries of Interior, Transport and Energy.

"We guarantee that regardless of the weather conditions , snow or blizzard, there will be no problems related to the supply of energy to citizens, hospitals, schools, social facilities. The authorities must be ready to intervene at any time if the situation requires it to assist the affected population and local communities. The Ministry of the Interior will be in constant contact with prefectures to ensure that there is capacity to intervene quickly at the local level," Ciolacu said in a press release Sunday morning.

Earlier, the CFR state railway carrier said that 21 trains are to be cancelled Sunday due to the bad weather.
