Temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius have been registered in 36 districts of Turkiye. The whole of Turkiye is currently experiencing the hottest days of summer. On Thursday, temperatures across the country were extremely high for another day.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, the temperature exceeded 40C in 36 of Turkiye's 81 districts on Wednesday.

The highest temperature was measured in the village of Cileme in the Aegean Turkish district of Izmir: 46C.

Despite the extreme heat on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, resorts are packed and there are holidaymakers on the beaches and pools even in the hottest afternoon hours.

The beaches are packed with people well after 7pm, with many bathing in the sea into the night hours. However, many holidaymakers complain that even the sea water is not refreshing at the moment. This week the sea water temperature off Izmir reached a record 32C.

An extraordinary high number of reports are being made to the Emergency Medical Service because of people who are fainting and passing out in the country's extremely hot weather.

A slight cooling of the weather is expected as of Thursday, mainly in northwest Turkiye. In Istanbul, a more serious cooling is expected, by 8 to 10C. In the capital, however, the heat continues, the state TV channel TRT Haber reported.
