A total of 84 illegal migrants have been rescued in the Aegean Sea off the coast of the town of Ayvacik, northwestern Turkiye, the Anatolian News Agency (ANA) reported on Monday.

The rescued migrants are Afghan nationals. They had tried to reach Greek territory but were expelled by Greek authorities.

According to the ANA, at 04:50 am on July 1, the Turkish Coast Guard Command received a signal that there was an inflatable boat off the coast of Ayvacik with many refugees on board who were in distress. A coast guard cutter was dispatched and 37 people were rescued.

A second signal was received during the same day at noon. Turkish Coast Guard teams set off with two boats and rescued 47 more irregular migrants.
