The Government extended the current programme for humanitarian assistance to displaced persons from Ukraine with temporary protection in Bulgaria until September 30 this year, the press service of the Council of Ministers reported.

According to the decision, hoteliers will continue to receive BGN 15 per person per day for accommodation of displaced Ukrainians. The allowance is used for categorized or registered accommodation establishments entered in the National Tourist Register after people seeking temporary protection have passed through buffer centres.

Due to the lack of an integration programme prepared by the previous cabinet with real measures to accommodate people with temporary protection in Bulgaria, the government has instructed the ministers of labour and social policy and of education and science to develop proposals for concrete integration measures to be included in a new programme within one month, the government press office said.

Also on Wednesday, Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) Director General Krassimir Gigov and the Head of the BRC International Cooperation and Programmes Directorate Preslava Lilova met with Ukrainian Ambassador in Sofia Olesya Uluschuk to discuss further humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

The sides considered the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians residing or arriving in Bulgaria, with a focus on the prompt provision of food. Representatives of the Mati Ukraina Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Bulgaria took part in the discussion to help coordinate the joint effort to meet the most pressing needs of displaced Ukrainians.

The sides agreed on holding expert meetings.
