What is being seen these days is quite serious instability in the new coalition, particularly on the issue of appointments, Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists in Varna on Wednesday evening. According to her, Violeta Lorer was the victim of a minister's "bloody signature" [an allusion to a recent scandalous leaked recording of a Continue the Change forum]. Asked whether a majority would be gathered to impeach the President, Iotova pointed out that those calling for such a step should ensure it.

Regarding the relations in the ruling coalition, the Vice President said she wanted to believe that Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov would be true to his word. Hopefully, he will confirm Bulgarians' impression that it is he who is the prime minister and not [Finance Minister] Assen Vassilev, Iotova said.

Commenting on the recent developments concerning the Prosecutor General, the Vice President said that it would not be serious to approach the Constitution lightly and change positions quickly, stressing that there is still no comprehensive proposal for judicial reform in Bulgaria. As to the removal of the Prosecutor General, Iotova commented that the decision of the Constitutional Court should be awaited first. Only the head of State can decide on the matter of the presidential decree which has to be issued to complete the procedure, Iotova said, adding that it is up to him and "I can assure everyone that neither pressure nor emotions will influence him".
