Interior Ministry to Set Up System

Sofia, September 16 (BTA) - The Interior Ministry said on
Tuesday that it will set up a content filtering system to block
access to child abuse content on the Internet. The news was
reported after Interior Minister Yordan Bakalov signed a
cooperation agreement with Stein Erik Vellan, CEO of telecom
operator Globul.

Bakalov said that Interpol has a list of child pornography
websites which Globul will make inaccessible in Bulgaria. An
Internet user who comes across such a site will be redirected to
 a stop page which will explain why the site is off limits.

The system will be of much help to the Interior Ministry in
combating "this kind of morbid practices," Bakalov said. He
called for new legislation to regulate the blocking of child
pornography content.

Vellan said Globul has been cooperating with the Norwegian
police since 2004 and with Interpol since 2009. He said that
access to child abuse web content in Norway is blocked at 79 per
 cent. Vellan urged other telecom operators to join the effort,
noting that the filtering system is offered free of charge. The
initiative is operational in 14 countries.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Norwegian
Ambassador to Bulgaria Guro Katharina Vikor. SN/VE
