Lot 2 of Marista Motorway Could Be Ready by Late November, Deputy PM Zaharieva Says
Haskovo, Southeastern Bulgaria, September 16 (BTA) - In case of
favourable climate conditions Lot 2 of Maritsa Motorway could be
ready by the end of November 2014, Deputy Prime Minister and
Regional Development Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva told
journalists Tuesday. She and Lazar Lazarov, Head of the
Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency, inspected
the construction works of the motorway's two lots.
Around 80 per cent of Lot 2 -from Dimitrovgrad to Harmanli - are
ready, but there is more to be desired in the first 17 km and
the work should be better organized, Zaharieva said. In her
words, the second 17 km of this section are almost complete and
flexible guard railing is being installed.
The construction of Lot 1 - from Orizovo to Dimitrovgrad - has
been delayed because of ongoing archaeological excavations along
the route, as well as unfinished expropriation procedures.
Around 50 per cent of the construction works on this section
have been concluded.
The realistic deadline for the construction of Lot 1 is spring
2015, maybe the end of May, Zaharieva said. According to her,
the two lots will be finished on time and there is no risk of
losing EU funding.
