Justice Minister Suggests Establishing Permanent Advisory Body on Implementation of Judiciary Reform

Sofia, January 6 (BTA) - Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva suggests setting up a Council for the Implementation of the Updated Strategy to Continue the Reform of the Judicial System as a permanent advisory body to the Council of Ministers. The proposal is included in a draft Council of Ministers' decree published for public consultation on the website of the Justice Ministry.

The documentation is being coordinated with other government institutions and a revised version of the draft decree with changes made during the process of coordination is expected to be included on the agenda of the meeting of the Council of Ministers next week.

Adopted by Parliament in late January 2015, the Updated Strategy to Continue the Reform of the Judicial System envisages the establishment of a council for its implementation.

The members of the Council are proposed to include representatives of the judicial and the executive power, other institutions, representatives of organizations of judges, prosecutors, investigative officers, court officers, NGOs and the academic community.

When discussions are planned of questions related to legal amendments or adoption of resolutions by Parliament, the head of the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee and floor leaders will be invited as well.
