Scheduled Switch-off of Kozloduy N-Plant's Unit 5

Sofia, February 20 (BTA) - The main generator of the 1,000-megawatt Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant was switched off as scheduled between 23:32 hours local time on February 19 and 12:39 hours on February 20 by permission of the Electricity System Operator, the plant's press office said.

This decision was made due to the availability of sufficient generating capacity, which opened up an opportunity to repair a hydrogen leak from a rubber seal of a cooling system component. During the repair in the conventional (non-nuclear) section, the reactor operated at up to 40 per cent of its capacity.

Currently Unit 5 is utilizing more of its capacity. The 1,000-MW Unit 6 is operating at full capacity.
