Revenue Agency Takes Measures to Improve Tax Compliance in Resorts

Bourgas, on the Black Sea, June 14 (BTA) - The National Revenue Agency (NRA) is tightening the control over compliance with tax and social security legislation along the Black Sea coast during the summer tourist season, the Agency reported Tuesday. The goal is to shed as much light as possible on the tourism sector and ensure proper revenue taxation and payment of social insurance contributions. NRA employees will be deployed to the Black Sea from other parts in the country.

Tax inspectors from the NRA's Bourgas office have seized 21 software configurations used to manipulate the reported revenue by retailers and wholesalers in the Sunny Beach resort and the town of Nessebur, the Agency's local office said.
Checks were conducted in popular bars, night clubs, restaurants, pawn shops and tattoo parlours.

Three retailers were found to be working without using fiscal devices, while discrepancies in cash revenue were found in seven others. Fines and penal decrees have been issued.

There is round-the-clock fiscal control at Bourgas Airport and information is collected from tour operators about the number of arriving tourists and the accommodation establishments.

The tax inspectors are using a variety of methods to exercise control, including anonymous purchases, direct surveillance of dozens of businesses, monitoring revenue by remotely connecting to fiscal devices, etc., the Bourgas NRA office explained.
