IRNA Managing Director Visits Veliko Turnovo

Veliko Turnovo, Northern Bulgaria, September 15 (BTA) - Mohammad Khodaddi, Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), visited Veliko Turnovo on Wednesday.

He is making his first visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

Introducing Khodaddi to local journalists, BTA Director General Maxim Minchev said IRNA is one of the world's top 10 most read electronic media.

Regional Governor Pencho Penchev and IRNA's Managing Director discussed possible cooperation between Veliko Turnovo Region and Iran' Isfahan Province. Meeting with Deputy Mayor Gancho Karabadjakov, Khodaddi said he had been in Bulgaria for just two days but felt at home because he found many similarities between Iranians and Bulgarians. The two countries have never had differences, which forms a good basis for relations in the future, he said.

Partnership between BTA and IRNA will ensure that information can be used in other areas, including trade, art, education and tourism, according to Khodaddi.

Questioned about the Middle East conflicts, IRNA's Managing Director said problems arise when someone else decides for the people living in a given country. If people in Syria are allowed to decide their own future, they will stay in their towns and not at the borders of other countries. Negotiations are better than war, the journalist said.
