Bulgaria's End-August Gross External Debt Totals Eur 34,694.8 Mln - Central Bank

Sofia, October 28 (BTA) - Bulgaria's gross external debt amounted to 34,694.8 million euro (76.3 per cent of GDP) at the end of August 2016, increasing by 606.4 million euro (1.8 per cent) from the end of 2015 (34,088.5 million euro, 75.3 per cent of GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank said Friday. On a year-on-year basis, the gross external debt grew by EUR 199.5 million (0.6 per cent) from August 2015 (34,495.3 million euro, 76.2 per cent of GDP).

Short-term liabilities equalled EUR 7,657.2 million (22.1 per cent of the total debt, 16.8 per cent of GDP), decreasing by 222.1 million eiro (2.8 per cent) from end-2015 (7,879.3 million euro; 23.1 per cent of the total debt, 17.4 per cent of GDP).

The general government gross external debt totalled 6,516.9 million euro (14.3 per cent of GDP) in end-August 2016. It rose by 936.8 million euro (16.8 per cent) from end-2015 (5,580.1 million euro, 12.3 per cent of GDP), mostly due to the nonresident-held securities from Bulgaria's bond issues on international capital markets in March 2016. On a year-on-year basis the general government debt increased by 630.5 million euro (10.7 per cent) from August 2015 (5,886.4 million euro, 13 per cent of GDP).

The gross external debt service totalled 3,578.6 million euro (7.9 per cent of GDP) in January - August 2016, compared to 6,572.9 million euro (14.5 per cent of GDP) in January - August 2015.
