Encouraging Results from Oil and Gas Exploration in Black Sea - Shell

Sofia, February 28 (BTA) - The geological studies in the Silistar 1-14 bloc, Southern Black Sea, within the natural gas and oil exploration activities were completed on January 5. The data are yet to be analyzed but the results are encouraging, Alexander Kaze [name may be misspelt], manager of the exploration project of the Shell company, said.

The analysis of the data will last around six months in order to decide whether to proceed to the next stage - exploration drilling.

Since 2013 the company has been performing exploration activities in a region in Turkey, adjacent to Silistar. There, the geological data were collected in 2014 and the exploration drilling was performed in 2015.

Exploration drilling is being performed in the Khan Asparouh Bloc, north of Silistar.

Silistar 1-14 has an area of 7,000 sq m. The exploration activities covered 5,125 sq m. The geological data were collected in the course of 87 days at a depth of 8-9 km at the bottom of the Black Sea. At a depth of several kilometers below the current sea level the researchers found the bed of a 20 million year-old river. Kaze said that more details on the exploration activities should be expected within a year.
