GERB Leader Borissov: Red Oligarchs within BSP Struggle for Domination

Bourgas/Yambol, Southeast Bulgaria, April 23 (BTA) - There is a struggle for domination between the "red oligarchs" within the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), while maintaining balance is very difficult, said GERB leader Boyko Borissov on Sunday, commenting the recent scandal about the meeting between Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov and businessman Sasho Donchev. Borissov was in the coastal city of Bourgas to inspect together with the city's Mayor, Dimiter Nikolov, the construction of a road section and the Arena Bourgas Hall.

According to Borissov, the Socialists have spent huge amounts of money on the presidential and parliamentary elections and cannot accept their loss. Posts have been distributed and many commitments made and "we can see this by the way many people are shaking nervously", he said.

Borissov recalled that GERB is thankful to the Konrad Adenauer and Hanns Seidel foundations for financing all seminars and round table discussions, saving the party the inconvenience of seeking money elsewhere. Obviously, this is not how things are with BSP, he added.

The GERB leader was asked to comment the problem with the uranium in the water of the southeastern towns of Haskovo and Velingrad. He said that of the 76 wells, only one had a high uranium content. Borissov said he can only promise that once a regular government is formed, money will be provided for a new well and water pipeline, so that the problem can be resolved. He recalled, however, that over 17,600 tonnes of uranium have been mined in Bulgaria since 1946, when BSP's predecessor - the Bulgarian Communist Party - was in power. He criticized the Socialists for comparing this with Chernobil, when it was them who hid from the people the truth about the N-plant meltdown, and it was during their rule that uranium was extracted in Bulgaria. President Rumen Radev compared on Friday the situation with the increased uranium levels and the institutions' silence about the problem to the Chernobil N-plant accident.

Borissov also visited the city of Yambol to attend the opening of a newly built church and surrounding premises, where he commented President Radev's earlier remarks about the fence along the Bulgarian-Turkish border.

It is not true that a double fence was commissioned, but only a single-line fence built, Borissov said. He addmitted that along certain sections the fence is a single line, because the migrant pressure was very high and it had to be built as fast as possible to cover the whole land border, and this is what was paid for. There are sections where the fence is double. Roads have been built near the border, where thermal cameras will be installed, and border guards will be able to quickly get to any point along the border, he added.
