Sofia, July 14 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Friday met with EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, the government information service said.

The European Parliament backed Gabriel's appointment as EU Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society on July 4.

Borissov wished her success in her responsible position. As EU commissioner, Gabriel can achieve considerable results to benefit EU citizens, he said. The Prime Minister noted her good communication with the European Commission and said he was confident she would be involved in active dialogue with the Bulgarian institutions.

Bulgaria's Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2018 was among the highlights on the agenda. The two concurred that it would allow Bulgaria to play an active role as an intermediary between the institutions and have a positive impact on matters of importance to Europe.

Borissov noted specifically the Western Balkans, saying he was optimistic after the Western Balkan Summit of the Berlin Process in Trieste and after Thursday's meetings with the prime ministers of Greece and Serbia in Thessaloniki. He stressed the great importance of a clear European perspective for the region.
