Infringement Procedure for Bulgaria Closed
over Transposition of Directive
on Antitrust Damages Actions

Brussels, January 24 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The European Commission has decided to close the infringement proceedings against Bulgaria as it has now transposed the Directive on antitrust damages actions (Directive 2014/104/EU) into national law.

This Directive helps citizens and companies claim damages if they are victims of infringements of EU antitrust rules, such as cartels or abuses of dominant market positions. It also gives victims easier access to evidence they need to prove the damage suffered and more time to make their claims.

Member States were under an obligation to transpose the Directive into national law by December 27, 2016. Seven Member States transposed it by the deadline. Following the opening of infringement proceedings, Bulgaria did so in the first half of 2018, the press release said. RY/DD
