President Radev Meet
with Swiss President
Ueli Maurer

Meiringen Air Base, Switzerland, February 22 (BTA special correspondent Asen Boyadzhiev) - Bulgarian President Rumen Radev was welcomed by his Swiss counterpart Ueli Maurer with an official ceremony on Friday at the Meiringen Air Base as part of his two-day official visit to Switzerland. The two observed the Alpha Scramble training, a quick response to FA18 aircraft in the event of an airspace violation.

Plenary talks between official delegations of the two countries started after the welcome ceremony.

On Thursday evening, Radev met with Bulgarian community representatives in Bern. He noted their success shows that Bulgarians are talented, hard-working and strong-willed, and thanked them for preserving the Bulgarian identity and language.

On a question whether he will veto the Election Code, Radev explained he will resolve it when he returns to Bulgaria and that his team is working hard on the matter.

He said that when citizens are deprived of the opportunity to have an effect on politicians, they [politicians] start to cater to their own interests rather than the public ones. "This is why we shouldn't withdraw from the power of representative democracy," Radev noted, adding that in Switzerland there is direct democracy that involves citizens in decision-taking and management processes - something that does not occur in Bulgaria.
