of Standing Committee of European Doctors
against Continuing Aggression against Medics in Bulgaria


Sofia, April 17 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) said on Wednesday that it has sought support from the Standing Committee of European Doctors in their fight against the continuing aggression towards medics in this country.

According to data of the prosecuting magistracy for 2017 and 2018, the newly launched proceedings for aggressive actions targeting medics numbered 37 and 26 respectively, while the Ministry of Health says that 114 cases of verbal aggression were registered at emergency centres in just the first two months of 2019, and nearly twice as much at medical establishments, BMA said.

In 2011-2013 two offenders received effective verdicts for aggression against doctor, nurse or paramedic, and one offender in 2014 - 2016. BR/RY
