July 16 (BTA) - "I won't resign
from my post because I'm doing my job," said Prosecutor General
Ivan Geshev on Thursday. He was approached to comment on calls
by President Rumen Radev and protesters about his resignation.
Geshev was visiting Shivachevo in connection with a specialized
operation against conventional crime.

"If everybody likes me,  it means that I'm not doing my job,"
said Geshev. He said that a year ago no one could imagine that
people such as Vassil Bojkov, Vetko and Marinela Arabadzhiev,
Evelina and Nikolai Banev, ministers, councillors, agency chiefs
 will be investigated.

"I support the just anger and demands of the Bulgarian
citizens," said the Prosecutor General, adding that some of the
protesters are paid and organized by oligarchs with millions,
who defend the political status quo. He voiced concern that
innocent people may get harmed during clashes at the protests.

Geshev said that the conventional crime rate has dropped by 20
per cent and the prosecution service wants to reduce it further.
As an example of the good cooperation between the prosecution
service and the police the Prosecutor General cited the 40 per
cent drop in phone scams. RY/PP
