BSP Left Bulgaria Coalition Demands
Ban on Intermodal Terminal Development
in Varna
Sofia, September 5 (BTA) - The BSP - Left Bulgaria Coalition
candidates in Varna have called for a cancellation of decisions
of the Council of Ministers concerning Bulgaria's chief Black
Sea city in a letter to caretaker Prime Minister Georgi
Bliznashki, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) press office
said Friday.
"We were amazed to read the information about the decision of
the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and
Communications, Nikolina Angelkova, to stop the implementation
and redirect the 15 million leva set aside by the previous
government for the design and construction of an intermodal
terminal in Varna as the beginning of the implementation of the
project for a new port and turning the old one into an
attraction zone for the city," the left-wing candidates say.
"The decision comes before the end of the competition for the
election of a designer between world-famous companies which have
designed ports such as Hamburg and Barcelona," the letter says
further. It also comments on the previous surprising decision to
increase port fees.
he candidates of the BSP - Left Bulgaria Coalition for Varna
constituency demand that the decision for stopping the
implementation of the intermodal terminal project be
reconsidered and revoked. They also demand that the fund set
aside by the previous government be used for this project alone
and that the long-term interests of Varna and Bulgaria, not the
short-term interests of the caretaker government be taken into
consideration./VI/BR
