PM Borissov: Borders Should Be Closed Immediately

Sofia, January 13 (BTA) - Taking a topical question in Parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said the Dublin Regulation is not working, borders should be closed and the influx of refugees should be stopped immediately, just as the United States did. "No more migrants should be taken in until the problem with those who have already arrived is resolved," he said.

In his words, those who are actually trying to escape death and war and have come to Europe should be integrated through education, employment and social care. The others, however, should be returned to their home countries. Borissov recalled that Bulgaria supported migrant allocation but it was clear that this solution would not work. "You were right in saying that Europe does not have a position on what exactly will happen and how it will happen," the PM said, commenting that individual countries defend their own interests. "True, some did invite the migrants, but others have to pay billions to support them," Borissov said. In his words, the latest events have shown that these masses of people will be difficult to integrate. He pointed out that mainly Afghan citizens were being intercepted at the Bulgarian border recently, who are difficult to integrate because of the conditions they have grown up in. It is very difficult to integrate such persons in a democracy where human rights and the attitude to women differ dramatically from what they were brought up with, the Prime Minister said.
