PM Borissov, PES Leader Stanishev Meet to Discuss Topical Issues

Sofia, February 12 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Party of the European Socialists (PES) Leader Sergei Stanishev on Friday, the Cabinet's Press Service said. The two discussed the development of the situation in Europe in the context of the migrant crisis and the measures undertaken at national and European level for its containment.

Borissov informed Stanishev of the discussions and the decisions at the Supporting Syria and the Region donors conference, Bulgaria's contribution to the international community's efforts to address the humanitarian problems and the talks he had with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, British Prime Minister David Cameron and US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Borissov and Stanishev also considered Bulgaria's membership of the Schengen Area in the context of the migrant crisis. They were unanimous that the situation in the EU in the recent years confirms the need to have this issue on the agenda again given that Bulgaria proves on a daily basis its ability to exercise efficient control of the Union's external borders.
