China National Nuclear Corporation Interested in Belene N-plant Project

Sofia, December 5 (BTA) - Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Energy Minister Temenouzhka Petkova Monday conferred with representatives of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the government information service said.

In the course of the meeting Borissov said that the Belene n-plant project could be implemented on a market basis, without state investment and without contracts for long-term buy-out of electric power. The representatives of the Chinese corporation confirmed readiness to participate in the implementation of the project under such conditions. After the Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania EAD (NEK) pays Atomstroyexport the sum due according to the arbitration judgment for Belene NEK will acquire the equipment. This will allow relocation of the assets in a project company and the launch of a privatization procedure.

CNNC is a large state-owned enterprise under direct management by the central government. It successfully built the first nuclear power plant in the Chinese mainland. CNNC has established a complete nuclear technology industry framework. It is a main part of the national nuclear technology industry and a leading element of national strategic nuclear forces and nuclear energy development. It undertakes missions to ensure national security and facilitate domestic economic development.
