Amendments to Radio and Television Act Passed Conclusively

Sofia, January 12 (BTA) - Parliament Thursday passed conclusively amendments to the Radio and Television Act, transposing the provisions of Directive 2010/13/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 10 March 2010 on the coordination of certain provisions laid down by law, regulation or administrative action in Member States concerning the provision of audiovisual media services.

The provisions particularize the rights and obligations of radio and television broadcasters in connection with the freedom to distribute programmes and the possibilities to derogate from the requirements and conditions for the creation and distribution of media content.

The limitation remained whereby an undertaking which has been issued a permit from the Communications Regulation Commission to use radio-frequency spectrum to carry out electronic communications via networks for digital audio broadcasting may not be a radio and TV operator. The initial amendments envisage repealing the restriction so as to enable media service providers to actively finance the setting up of multimedia platforms and provide additional services to a particular broadcaster.

Parliament also ratified the memoranda amending the agreement establishing the International Investment Bank and its statutes.
