UDF National Council Favours Running in Elections with Parties from Reformist Bloc

Sofia, January 17 (BTA) - Nearly 92 per cent of the members of the National Council of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) want the party to run in the early elections together with their partners from the Reformist Bloc, said Tuesday UDF leader Bozhidar Loukarski. He spoke at a briefing after a meeting of the UDF National Council.

According to Loukarski, equal number of National Council members favour a coalition with the Bulgarian Agrarian National Union and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria.

UDF's National Council has empowered the National Executive Council of the UDF to hold negotiations with all right of centre parties for joint running in the elections, said UDF Chief Secretary Filip Kirev.

Loukarski said that for now UDF won't hold talks with "Yes,Bulgaria" of former justice minister Hristo Ivanov before it has become clear where the new entity will be situated along the political spectrum.

Taking a question Loukarski said that UDF's decision to be part of the government was not a mistake. "In order to implement reforms, you have to be part of the government," he said.
