The IGB project will make possible the supply to Bulgaria of the agreed 1 billion cu m gas annually from the Shah Deniz 2 field as of 2020.

The interconnector with Greece is also a key element in the implementation of the initiative of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Hungary for the construction of a "vertical" gas corridor for supply of natural gas from north to south.
