An air alert has been issued in Odesa and the district was hit by a drone attack at 2:38 am, local authorities reported in the Telegram application. They also reported explosions in the northern part of Odesa region.

The authorities are urging residents of Odesa and the region to stay in shelters.

Currently, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev is in Odesa on the occasion the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians.

The event is organized by the National Press Club of BTA in Odesa with the support of the Consulate General of Bulgaria and will take place on October 26 in the city garden.

The event will feature a concert by Bulgarian singer Desislava Dobreva with the participation of three Bulgarian folk dance ensembles from the city of Bolhrad, the villages of Kamchik and Kulevcha from Odesa region.

Odesa Province is home to the third largest community of expatriate Bulgarians, numbering more than 150,000 people, according to an official population census in Ukraine in 2001. Between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians live in the provincial capital, Odesa. Bulgarians in the province are concentrated in the districts of Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.
