An exhibition of traditional survakar masks and costumes of the Surva International Festival of Masquerade Games held in Pernik, southwestern Bulgaria, was presented in Nis, Serbia, the FAR multimedia portal in Bulgarian and Serbian reported on Tuesday. Guests of the event had the opportunity to witness the preserved masquerade tradition of Pernik.
The event was attended by representatives from the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Nis, representatives of the Municipality of Pernik and members of the Survakari Foundation
Surva (Surova) is the largest masquerade event in the Balkans and boasts a 57-year-long history. In 2015, the annual festival was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The exhibition in Nis was unveiled in the framework of the project Protection and promotion of public cultural and heritage assets of Bulgaria. The project is co-financed by the EU through the Interreg - IPA programme for cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Serbia.
