site.btaFirst Bulgarian Embroidery Festival in North America to Be Held in Canada

The first Bulgarian embroidery festival in north America will take place between September 22 and 24 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, said Consulate General of Bulgaria in Toronto on their Facebook page.

The Kanatitza Festival was named after the traditional Bulgarian embroidery. Kanatitza is a universal symbol, which for about seven thousand years has spread to different parts of the Earth, regardless of religion and state, the post states.

The event aims to gather many Bulgarian folklore traditions in one place and in this way to showcase the Bulgarian footprint in the history of global embroidery and folklore motifs, the Consulate General added.

The festival will include participants from the cities of Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego and Vancouver. Bulgarian folk ensembles from North America will take part. A special guest of the festival from Bulgaria will be Dilyana Kurdova, who will present her book "Thoughts on Bulgarian Women's Traditional Costume", added the Consulate.

On September 24, the event will end with a visit to the capital of the province of British Columbia, Victoria.

"On behalf of the Bulgarian-Canadian Society in British Columbia and the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto, we invite you to the first Bulgarian dance and hand embroidery festival, Kanatitza Fest. Come with us and become part of the representation of Bulgaria in North America," said the Bulgarian diplomatic representation, adding that there will also be traditional Bulgarian folkore dancing for all in a the garden with Bulgarian roses in the Vancouver area, which was opened in the spring.
