Bronislav Likomanov completed his preparatory work in Sofia on the monument to the Bulgarian alphabet that will be erected in Los Angeles, the Bulgarian Consulate General in LA said on its Facebook page.

"The dream of the Bulgarian community on the US West Coast to erect a monument to the Bulgarian alphabet in Los Angeles is becoming a reality. The dedicated author of the sculpture and prominent Bulgarian artist Bronislav Likomanov has already completed his preparatory work in Sofia," the diplomatic mission said.

The monument will be cast in bronze, it transpired from the Facebook post.

The Consulate General expressed gratitude to the Bulgarian Foundation for Art, Culture and Education (BgFACE), which is implementing the project, as well as all donors who are supporting it.

The sculpture depicts the hand of an enlightener holding a book that turns into a bird. Below it are carved the first four letters of the Bulgarian alphabet.

"Starting the first sketches on the project for a monument to writing, it was important for me to find easily recognizable symbolism. I found the inspiration for the monument in the phrase 'knowledge gives wings'. The writing monument depicts the hand of the enlightener giving future generations knowledge in the form of an open book. A part of the book's pages turns into a bird's wing," the sculptor told BTA earlier.

Likomanov, a Bulgarian and a long-term US resident, works for companies like Disney and has solo art exhibitions as well.
