site.btaVezenkov Leads Bulgaria's Basketball Team to Victory over Sweden


With outstanding performances of the best Bulgarian basketball player and two-time Athlete of the Year, Aleksandar Vezenkov, the national basketball team of Bulgaria defeated Sweden 81:77 (25:22, 9:17, 24:15, 12:16, 11:7) after overtime as a host in Arena Botevgrad in a match of the fifth round in Group D of the qualification for the European Championship for men.
The success was the second for Bulgaria in five matches played, and preserved the team's chances to qualify for EuroBasket 2025. The Swedes conceded a third defeat and collected the same asset as Bulgaria (2-3), but will have an advantage in case of a tie in points collected between the rivals after the last round due to their 14-point victory in the first match against the Bulgarians.
In the other group game on Thursday evening, Germany beat Montenegro 95-76 in Podgorica and topped the provisional standings with a 3-2 record, similar to the Montenegrins.
Vezenkov played a great game in Arena Botevgrad. He was the main driving force of the team and realized 40 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in 44 minutes on the court.
In their last game of the Euro qualifiers, Bulgaria will host world champion Germany in Bamberg on February 23 and will have to chase a win.
