President of the European Handball Federation (EHF) Michael Wiederer had arrived in Bulgaria for the European beach handball qualifications. He watched most of the matches in Saturday's programme in the company of the President of the Bulgarian Handball Federation, Rosen Dobrev. Wiederer said he had been to Varna in the 1980s.
"The Bulgarian Handball Federation has done a great job. First of all with the construction of the stadiums. Amazing infrastructure. Positive feedback coming from both the teams and our officials. This championship is what it should be. We have a very close relationship with the Bulgarian Handball Federation. We really think that Bulgarian handball is moving upwards. This is important for us, because we depend not only on the leading nations, but also on those at the middle level. This is good for interest, for marketing, for sponsors. That's why I would say that our relations with the Bulgarian Federation, besides being good, are also necessary for us," said Wiederer.
From July 4 to 7, the European Championships for boys and girls under 16 were held on the South Beach in Varna. From July 11 to 14 are the European qualifiers for men and women.
In the qualification tournament for the European Championships in 2025, 12 teams are competing in the women's competition. There are 10 teams in the men's competition.
