Bulgaria’s tennis pride Grigor Dimitrov confirmed his excellent form from the end of last season and the beginning of this one by easily defeating the German Daniel Altmaier 6:1, 6:3 in an hour and seven minutes of play.

Thus the Bulgarian, seed No. 2, qualified for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane with a prize pool of USD 661,585. There, Dimitrov will play against the representative of the hosts Rinky Hijikata, who earlier overcame the Czech Tomas Machac with 2:1 sets.

Grigor Dimitrov started his match with Altmaier perfectly, winning the first five consecutive games, making two breaks. The German managed to take his serve only for 5:1, but then the Bulgarian took the first set on his own serve, leaving his opponent at 0.

"It was a nice match. I was moving very well on the court at the beginning and I was aggressive when I had to be. This is one of my favourite courts and I thank the crowd who stayed to watch me," Dimitrov said immediately after the victory.

If he wins in the quarter-finals as well, Dimitrov, who has a title in Brisbane and two finals, can secure a thrilling clash in the semi-finals with Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, but the Spaniard must first win against Australian Jason Kubler and possibly another representative of the hosts - Jordan Thompson.
