The Sapareva Banya Municipal Council on Friday agreed for Mayor Kalin Gelev to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on a project of national importance between Sapareva Banya Municipality and Madaba Governorate in the Kingdom of Jordan, represented by Madaba Mayor Aref Al Rawajeeh.

The municipal councilors also unanimously adopted the decision to rename one of the most important streets in their city to Madaba in honour of the project. Gelev noted that the street will pass near the eastern gate of the ancient city of Germania and pointed out that the street will connect the present and the future with ancient times.

For his part, the mayor of the Jordanian municipality informed the attendees that a decision has already been made to rename the most important tourist street in the city of Madaba to Sapareva Banya. He thanked for the hospitality and talked about the tourism opportunities in Madaba Municipality, which was visited by 700,000 tourists in 2023.

The extraordinary meeting of the Municipal Council was also attended by Kyustendil Regional Governor Alexander Pandurski and representatives of the tourism industry of the Kingdom of Jordan. The two sides discussed the problems related to the issuance of visas for citizens of the Kingdom of Jordan who want to visit Bulgaria and the lack of transport connectivity between the two countries through a direct flight line. The solution to these problems will multiply the flow of tourists between the two countries, the two sides pointed out.
