On Wednesday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev held a meeting with Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, Transport and Communications Minister Krasimira Stoyanova and Regional Minister Violeta Koritarova to discuss urgent measures for the traffic jam on the Danube Bridge border crossing checkpoint at Ruse, the press service of the Council of Ministers said.

Glavchev instructed the ministers to talk with their Romanian counterparts and join efforts. He was adamant that a separation of heavy goods vehicle flows into two streams should be introduced - one for those from EU member states, and one for those from third countries. For this purpose, traffic will be reorganized even before the border crossing.

"Do everything possible to speed up the crossing of the Danube Bridge.  I call for swift action and finding effective solutions," the Prime Minister addressed the ministers.

Talks will be held again with representatives of the Romanian authorities on the launching of the Ruse-Giurgiu ferry, which would ease traffic on the bridge. The ministers noted that the fact that the ferry at Oryahovo has not been operational for three whole days due to the low level of the Danube River has created additional problems and this has directed more heavy goods vehicles to Ruse.
