site.btaCentral Bank: Loans for House Purchase Up by 24.4%, Consumer Loans Up by 13.9% in May 2024, Y/Y

Loans for house purchase amounted to BGN 21.805 billion at the end of May 2024 and grew by 24.4% year-on-year. Consumer loans stood at BGN 17.956 billion and increased by 13.9% compared to May 2023, the Central Bank said in a report published on its website on Tuesday.

On an annual basis other loans increased by 6.3% (3.9% annual growth in April 2024) and reached BGN 418.4 million. In May 2024, loans to Sole proprietorships and partnerships without legal status increased annually by 11.4% (11.6% annual growth in April 2024) reaching BGN 472.5 million. 

Loans to Households and Non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) were BGN 41.479 billion (20.9% of GDP) at the end of May 2024. They increased by 18.8% compared to the same month of 2023 (18.6% annual growth in April 2024).

In May 2024, loans to Non-financial corporations increased by 8.4% annually (8.6% annual growth in April 2024) and at the end of the month amounted to BGN 45.603 billion (23% of GDP).

Loans granted to financial corporations were BGN 7.881 billion at the end of May 2024 (4% of GDP). Compared to May 2023, they increased by 19.5% (20.9% annual growth in April 2024).  

At the end of May 2024, claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 94.964 billion (48% of GDP) compared to BGN 94.251 billion (47.6% of GDP) at the end of April 2024. They increased annually by 13.6% in May 2024 (13.7% annual growth in April 2024). The change of loans to the non-government sector was influenced also by net sales of loans by Other monetary financial institutions (Other MFIs) - their volume for the last twelve months was BGN 109.6 million. On an annual basis, loans sold9 by Other MFIs were BGN 109.6 million (of which BGN 0.4 million in May 2024), while there were no loans repurchases for the last twelve months. 

At the end of May 2024, deposits6 of the non-government sector7 were BGN 129.859 billion (65.6% of GDP), increasing annually by 9.3% (8.9% annual growth in April 2024). 

Deposits of Non-financial corporations were BGN 43.773 billion (22.1% of GDP) at the end of May 2024. Compared to the same month of 2023 they increased by 6.7% (7.4% annual growth in April 2024).

Deposits of Financial corporations decreased by 8.9% annually in May 2024 (18.6% annual decline in April 2024) and at the end of the month they were BGN 3.259 billion (1.6% of GDP). 

Deposits of Households and NPISHs were BGN 82.827 billion (41.8% of GDP) at the end of May 2024. They increased by 11.7% compared to the same month of 2023 (11.1% annual growth in April 2024).
