The strengthening of electricity and gas interconnection between Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania, especially in the context of increased renewable energy ambitions and the opportunities to realise the significant energy potential in the region, were among the main topics discussed during the visit of Director General for Energy of the European Commission Ditte Juul Jorgensen in Bulgaria, the press centre of the Ministry of Energy on said Tuesday.

Juul Jorgensen met with Energy Minister Rumen Radev, Deputy Ministers Iva Petrova and Krasimir Nenov, as well as with Bulgartransgaz EAD CEO Vladimir Malinov and ESO EAD Central Dispatch Director Dimitar Zarchev. Juul Jorgensen visited the dispatching offices of Bulgartransgaz EAD and ESO EAD, as well as the Iskar Industry substation, which was upgraded with EU funding under Bulgaria's Recovery and Resilience Plan. 

The meeting put emphasis on the need to strengthen the transmission infrastructure, including within the framework of the Vertical Gas Corridor project.

The issue of system security was also touched upon, with Dimitar Zarchev from ESO EAD presenting plans for the expansion of the electricity transmission network, which has a key role to play in integrating more RES.
