Fourth-Quarter GDP Grows by 4.5% Y/Y

February 16 (BTA) - In the fourth quarter of 2021, Bulgaria's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.5 per cent compared with the fourth quarter of 2020 and 1 per cent compared with the third quarter of 2021, according to seasonally adjusted data published by the National Statistical Institute on Wednesday.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, GDP amounted to 38,513.5 million leva, flash estimates show. Gross value added (GVA) was 33,476.3 million leva.

Final consumption accounted for the largest share of GDP, at 81.7 per cent (31,476.7 million leva). Gross capital formation was 21.5 per cent of GDP (8,283.1 million leva). The foreign trade balance was in negative territory.

In the fourth quarter of 2021 compared with the third quarter of 2021, GVA grew by 1.2 per cent.

According to the flash estimate of GDP by final expenditure approach, the reason for the positive GDP growth at seasonally adjusted data in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter is the increase in the final consumption by 1.3 per cent.

In the fourth quarter of 2021 compared with the fourth quarter of 2020, GVA went up by 4.2 per cent. Final consumption increased by 7.9 per cent, while gross capital formation dropped by 12.5 per cent. Export of goods and services rose by 12.9 per cent.
