The film Father by Adrian Al Jazzar from Silistra will compete at the 25th Chicago International Horror Film Festival in the category Best Short Film, Al Jazzar told BTA on Wednesday. The film was nominated to compete against films from around the world.
"The film is very similar to classic horror films, but it's modernised. It features three actors and is about three minutes long. It deals with the subject of domestic violence through the eyes of a child," Al Jazzar said. He described his film as a psychological horror.
The Chicago Horror Film Festival is one of the leading independent horror film festivals in the world. This year's event will take place on May 4 and May 5.
This is not the first international recognition for Adrian Al Jazzar. In 2021, his film Empty Life won the Award for Best Short Film at the Hollywood Gold Awards. His short films reflect real human lives and address social themes such as rejection, loneliness and missed chances in life.
