site.btaExhibition Dedicated to Artist Yanaki Manasiev to Be Displayed at Sofia City Art Gallery

An exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of artist Yanaki Manasiev (1932-1978) will go on display at the Sofia City Art Gallery (SCAG) on November 21, the organizers said on Wednesday. The exhibition is titled Lonely and Apart.

Yanaki Manasiev is among the brightest Bulgarian artists from the second half of the 20th century, but he is little known to the public and especially to the younger generation. His contemporaries speak of him as a bold experimenter and innovator who introduced new subjects and means of expression into art during the 1960s and 1970s, a time that sought to shake off the dogma of socialist realism, SCAG said.

Manasiev mainly painted portraits and figurative compositions, but he was also active in graphic art. The woman, her complex feelings and moods, delicate appearance and lyrical expression, take a main role in Manasiev's works.

The exhibition will include over 70 paintings, 20 graphic artworks, as well as some of the artist's drawings.

The exhibition includes a bilingual catalogue.
