site.btaSofia to Host Photo Exhibition of Deaf Models with Music Instruments

An art exhibition entitled In Search of Sound will present 28 photographs of young Bulgarians with hearing impairments shot with traditional Bulgarian musical instruments. The exhibition will be unveiled in Crystal Garden, Sofia, on September 18, the organizers said.

The National Center of Alternative Communication "We Hear You", who organize the event, said that the photos captured the interaction between the deaf models and five musical instruments typical of the Bulgarian folklore. The young models tested their acoustic senses with and without technical aids to the live sounds of the kaba gaida (bagpipe from the central Rhodope Mountains), kaval, gadulka, tambura and davul. The exhibition reveals ways of hearing beyond the silence through photographs taken at various scenic locations around the country.
