Some 60 Bulgarian Films to Be Screened at 41st Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival

Nearly 60 Bulgarian films will be screened at the 41st edition of the Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival in Varna, the organizers of the National Film Centre (NFC) said on Thursday. A total of 53 of them are live-action films, while the programme also includes two documentaries and four series.

They have been selected by the NFC selection committee to present the latest production of Bulgarian cinematography.

The event will be opened on September 20 with a fashion show and Junior Band concert, followed by a screening of Tonislav Hristov’s latest documentary The Last Glarus.

The main competition is open to 12 feature films produced in the last year. 25 films are competing in seven separate categories in the short film competition of the Golden Rose Festival.

The jury of the feature film competition includes Dina Yordanova, Film Studies Professor in Scotland and Hong Kong, director Zornitsa Sophia (winner of the Golden Rose in 2004 and 2022), Georgian actress and director Nana Djordjadze (winner of the Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival), actor, singer and composer Stefan Valdobrev (winner of Best Actor at the Golden Rose in 2004), and director, screenwriter, producer and former NFC Director Marin Marchevsky, Professor at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin.

Golden Rose 2011 winner No.1 will be screened in tribute to producer Plamen Yordanov who died in July. Special screenings are planned in honour of the anniversaries of Meglena Karalambova, Maria Statulova, Petar Slabakov and Apostol Karamitev.

The Festival’s programme also features discussions on TV series, women in cinema, contemporary short productions and films on historical themes in Bulgaria.
