A team of Bulgarian researchers from Burgas University won an award for outstanding contribution in the field of artificial intelligence within the Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems international scientific conference (INFUS), said the university.

The forum is traditionally held at Istanbul Technical University and is one of the most significant for intelligent and fuzzy systems.

The Bulgarian team was awarded for a report on a generalized network model with intuitionistic fuzzy estimations of humanoid robot behavior during navigation tasks, authored by Associate Professor Simeon Ribagin, Professor Sotir Sotirov and Academician Krasimir Atanasov. The prize is awarded in memory of Lotfi A. Zadeh.

The main mission of the conference is to expand existing concepts of artificial intelligence through joint research between universities and international research institutions. The forum promotes interdisciplinary research and brings together researchers. It focuses on the fundamentals and applications of intelligent and fuzzy systems, computational intelligence, and soft computing for applied research that underlies artificial intelligence.

The materials from the conference are published in a collection by Springer,  in a series titled "Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems", and are indexed in the world databases Scopus and Web of Science.

This year, the event featured 186 scientific reports by over 360 scientists from 32 countries.  A total 11 reports were presented, on current topics related to the application of intelligent tools for the analysis of health, medical, oncological, economic data, measuring happiness, modeling the behavior of humanoid robots, the university added.
