site.btaKvadrat 500 to Host Skateboarding Photo Exhibition

Kvadrat 500 in Sofia will host Born Free, a photo exhibition by Konstantin Valkov, between August 30 and October 29, the National Art Gallery said on Wednesday.

The exhibition's curator Marieta Tsenova said: "Konstantin Valkov's series of photographs from skate parks is a great lesson in social photography. Not sports, not portraiture, but documentary - a visual narrative of street culture located in Cape Town and Barcelona, Manchester and Burgas, Sofia and Tsarevo". Tsenova spoke about the skateboarders' struggle to lose the label of street hooligans and instead be recognized as Olympic hopefuls.

Valkov's photograph do not employ any effects. They tell the story of skateboarding - a sport that poses no social boundaries and that offers personal freedom, which can be shared with anyone willing to stand up for it.
