This year's celebrations for the holiday of Nessebar also mark the 40th anniversary of the town's inscription on the UNESCO list of world cultural sites of universal human significance, the municipality's press centre reported on Tuesday.

The Day of Nessebar is celebrated on August 15, when the Orthodox Church celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This year, the Nessebar icon of the Mother of God will be taken for veneration outside the walls of the local temple. On the eve of the feast, a procession will pass through the streets of the Old Town, and in the morning a mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Assumption. Cadets from the Atia naval base will take part in the ritual of raising the national flag of Bulgaria on the occasion of the celebrations.

Tonight, the residents and guests of Nessebar will be able to see a drone show in the sky above the Old Town. There will also be a 3D mapping projection and a light show telling stories about the town on the city walls. The celebration will end with fireworks.
