site.btaDr Alina Levi Heads Shalom Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria

The  Shalom Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria elected Dr Alina Levi President with an absolute majority at a meeting on March 23. Addressing the delegates, she stressed the importance of teamwork and mutual support. Also elected were 33 members of the Consistory, the governing body of the organization.

Many international partners, organizations in Bulgaria and the entire Shalom community thanked Dr Alexander Oscar for his two successive - and successful - terms, during which he affirmed Shalom as a modern NGO with clear positions in modern society.

The meeting also marked the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Shalom Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria in March 1990 as the successor to the Consistory of the Jews in Bulgaria prior to 1944. The newly elected President, Dr Alina Levi, was born the same year that the organization was founded and has long been an active participant in its work. She is the first woman President of the Shalom Organization. Her programme is based on priorities such as an active and inclusive community, strategic planning, financial sustainability, transparency and a strong civic stance.

Dr Levi graduated from the Medical University of Sofia. She is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Alexandrovska University Hospital. She has taken specialization courses at some of the most renowned ophthalmology clinics in Switzerland and Croatia. In 2024, she completed a two-month course at Harvard Business School under the guidance of Prof Margolis, focused on leadership, sustainable management and social impact. She has been a member of the Consistory since 2016, and has led the Bet Shalom Foundation since 2017, which plays a key role in establishing the community's school as a recognized institution for quality education.

She is married, with two children.
