Following a meeting with CEO of Hyundai E&C Hanwoo Lee, GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on Facebook that it is strategically important for Bulgaria to build Units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP. “I expect the project to be implemented within the deadlines set by the National Assembly and within the budget," Borissov said.

The talks were also attended by chair of the budget committee Delyan Dobrev, and Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov who explained that Bulgaria is one of the few countries where the nuclear energy industry has a history of over 50 years and well-trained personnel, which is an invaluable asset.

Statistics show that more than 70% of Bulgarians support the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria, which, by comparison, is even more than in a country like France, where this sector has a long tradition, the publication says.

As chairman of the energy committee in the 49th Parliament, Delyan Dobrev explained at the presentation of the South Korean company Hyundai Engineering & Construction that the project for the construction of Units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP was launched with two decisions of the National Assembly. The first decision selected the technology of the US company Westinghouse with the AP 1000 reactor, which will be the first of its kind in Europe. "We hope it will not only be the first project launched, but also the first project completed," he said. The second decision of the National Assembly selected Hyundai Engineering & Construction as the company with which to negotiate the construction of these two units. According to Dobrev, this will be the biggest project in Bulgaria for the last forty years.
