The question of sending troops into battle in Ukraine has never been raised by anyone, said Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said in Parliament. Georgiev and Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov are given a hearing in Parliament in relation to questions, drawn up by the US on the country’s readiness to take part in a special operation in Ukraine.
No one anywhere and in any way has discussed the issue of sending military contingents to Ukraine to participate in hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. This is what Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said in the National Assembly. He and Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov are taking part in a hearing in parliament on a "questionnaire" prepared by the United States on issues related to Bulgaria's readiness to participate in a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine."
"The issue of peacekeeping forces as part of a future peace agreement falls within the general debate on security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war. We urge that all speculations on this topic stop, because they only instill fear in the society, which should not exist because Bulgarian foreign and defence policy have never been unreasonable in this respect," Georgiev said.
The US has asked its European allies to say what they would need from Washington to participate in security arrangements in Ukraine and to outline how they see lasting guarantees, according to a document seen by Reuters.
