The funding of activities and research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) was discussed at a meeting attended by BAS Chairperson Corr. Member Evelina Slavcheva, Education and Science Minister Krasimir Valchev, and Deputy Minister Acad. Nikolay Vitanov. The participation of BAS scientists in national scientific programmes and as lecturers at Bulgarian universities was also among the topics of the discussion.
Slavcheva briefed Valchev on the priorities in her programme for managing the Academy. The meeting took place immediately after the General Assembly of BAS, which was convened to elect three deputy chairpersons and a chief scientific secretary.
Earlier on Monday, Valchev attended the opening of an exhibition displaying the achievements of the Bulgarian natural sciences’ Olympic teams, which took place at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski." The exhibits are part of a special edition of the My Awakeners project, dedicated to the successes of the Bulgarian national Olympic teams in mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics, biology, linguistics, astronomy, astrophysics, and artificial intelligence.
On Monday, the Minister also conferred with university rectors, higher education unions, and representatives of student councils, his Ministry also said.
